Details from my interview with the witness:

I was able to conduct three months of interviews with this witness, conversing back the forth nearly every day through emails, and spent a considerable amount of time doing sketches during these interviews. At each stage, the rough illustrations were sent to the witness for corrections until the illustration was as representative as possible.

This sighting occurred in Del Norte county in the State of California. The witness (along with others) had backpacked a full three days into California's backwoods, and had just crossed over the Smith River. They decided to set up camp on an east facing mountain so they could get the first light in the morning. It wasn't the witness's first trip in, but it was unusual in that there were more indigenous animals seen this trip than ever before. They saw black bears with more than one cub, deer, squirrels, and mountain lions that they don't usually get to see.

The witness woke up at first light and needed to relieve herself. She wandered off away from camp up into a wooded area with a small field of knee-deep ferns. As she was finishing, she heard something coming from her right and thought, "Oh no, here comes a trickster with intent to scare me or play a trick." Whoever it was, he was coming at a pretty good clip, on a slightly uphill grade, so she stood up real fast and fastened her levis and saw movement out of her right peripheral vision.

At first she thought it was a man because of its build. It walked upright like a man, had a huge barrel chest that came off the widest shoulders she'd ever seen. She wasn't overwhelmed by the height, maybe less than 7 feet, not extraordinarily tall. But she's 5' 8", so she still looked up. It may have been taller, she feels, because it walked with bent knees, slinging one foot in front of the other, sort of like a Groucho Marx walk.

She says, "I stood there like a dope watching this person approach within 15 to 20 or so feet of me, close enough to see its eyelash sheen in the morning sunlight. It had beautiful eyes ... brilliant bronze/copper, not brown ... gorgeous black eyelashes and a very slight brow ridge that seemed to go off over to the ears which I couldn't see for the hair, which was scraggly, matted in places and tossed ... if it had ears, I don't know. The head wasn't conical, that pointy looking mess on top was a cow-lick sort of affair of hair, a lot of it too dangled down the middle of the back of the head and spilled onto the shoulders. It was chocolate brown with flashes of reddish brown in the sunlighted places as it walked by."

The face had a large jaw, and the profile was flat. The witness feels this creature was a female. "She wasn't scary looking, not mad, no frown. Mouth often tells me demeanor of an individual, but this is harder because of the hair ... she WAS UGLY except for her wonderful eyes and particularly long eyelashes. They are so noticeable that I don't remember the lower eye lashes now ... maybe the ugliness in my thought process was from the beard and growth of hair on her face."

The witness says the creature had circles under her eyes. Under the bottom circle was where the hair began. She described it as being "like a bearded lady you see in circus pictures", but explained that the facial hair wasn't all that long on the central portion of the face. "Her eyes were deep set but not totally under the brow ridge. In other words, the brow ridge didn't cause an overhang look to the eyes. The skin was a pink-brownish color, very light Negroid in color."

"It looked my way straight on moving the upper torso. It knew I was there but kept walking never breaking stride but it has the oddest walk. It was about this time I noticed it was pretty much covered with hair and had sagging breasts, old and used up. Hair laid flat like a horse breaking out of its winter coat." The hair appeared to be worn away in many areas, like on her knees, possibly from kneeling, and on her elbows, on the insides of her upper thighs, on the insides of her forearms, and on the sides of her body where her arms rubbed back and forth.

"I don't know how long I looked at her. I can only imagine it was as long as it took to walk from my right side (which was downhill) coming in an uphill angle from the right, passing in front of me and off to my left continuing slightly uphill. The thing never broke its stride or its focus on wherever it was going. She just kept moving in that odd gait through the ferns at a pretty good clip then it was over ... oh yes, I saw her coming face on, thinking it was a joke ... looked at the thing straight on then got the profile as she went by and saw the back of her head once she passed. By then it was registering. It wasn't a joke, but I didn't know what this was."

"She was not dainty or feminine - everything about her could be construed as masculine by my standards except for the eyes and female anatomy. There was hair on her cheeks, chin, but not the nose, under eye or forehead. It was short until it reached the bottom of the jaw and that is where it looked like a masculine beard that had been never cut. Whiskers. Her head of hair was thick, dark-brown black with reddish tinge to it in the sunlight. Lots of head hair, it almost looked like it was pulled up into a high ponytail but that's a cow-lick thing not a conical head. It's twisted hair that cascades narrowly down her back. I guess that part is sort of feminine looking."

"Her shoulders were huge, massive and wide is more like it, the area of the shoulder sockets is heavily haired making it look even more massive."

"From shoulder down her chest was barreled. Her tummy was saggy and she has a belly button, ha. There was a scar on her left front shoulder, just below the clavicle that looked like it hadn't healed properly. I don't know what that scar might have been from, it was roundish, deeply scarred over and no hair grew around that wound area. Whatever the cause, it must have left some sort of infection."

"There were many places on her body I remember as dirty, unkempt looking, disheveled. I remember telling my friends that she looked one of two things, either old or sick. In hindsight, maybe both."

"There were many places, maybe worn areas where no hair grew like knees, elbows, inner forearms and sides of the underarm, on the body where arm and chest rubbed. I don't remember much about the feet other than she would sling each forward awkwardly never locking the hind leg during the step process. Knees were always slightly bent, not locked-kneed if you know what I mean. You and I lock our rear leg in the process of stepping forward. This creature doesn't. There is a length of leg between the knee and the ankle that is long and very muscular. Thighs and buttocks have pronounced muscles. All of that was clear, the sun was coming up from behind my back, the sun came through columns of shadows from the tall trees behind me. The creature strolled through those columns of light, which made the intense sunlit areas bright on her body ... it was then details were clear. I didn't see teeth. I don't remember any ears ... I did notice hands and yellowed fingernails with some length to them ... also dirty. Hands like ours only larger in proportion to her size. Hair on top, light brown skin underneath. Her breasts were lightly haired, sagging, empty and very much like an elderly old woman. Almost all hairless areas were pinkish-brown skin, light Negroid coloring ... "

"I have come to learn that most people are frightened at the moment of an encounter and some realize what it is they are seeing. I didn't know what it was and I only remember thinking this person was bizarre."

In summary, the witness added:

"These adjectives best describe her: old or sick, unhealthy, disheveled looking, unkempt, dirty, huge, ugly, barrel-chested, and stocky if that can be applied to a tall person."
