Springbank Visual Arts - Painting in Watercolours

I attended OCAD in Toronto, Ontario where I studied drawing, painting, illustration, and was introduced to fiber arts. Later, I studied weaving at Humber College, then ran a weaving and fiber arts studio for 15 years. As fashions and decor changed, I began taking Interior Design courses and studied writing, something I'd always been interested in. I worked as a freelance writer and editor for many years, and had several short stories published during the '80's and '90's.

I returned to my first love, drawing and painting in the mid-'90's, took some refresher courses and logged time in life drawing studios. Examples of my paintings appear in the left menu.

I hope you enjoy the artwork.

My Personal Quest

For many years, I have felt that if the scientific community is unwilling to address the very real possibility that this creature exists, then those of us who are determined to prove it's existence should find ways to contribute any skills we have to the investigation. That's why I've begun this project.

That First Spark

I first became interested in sasquatch when, as a teenager, I saw the original Patterson/Gimlin film on TV. The idea that the hairy creature might be a hoaxer did cross my mind. But I could also envision a world in which an animal like that could exist. My mind was not closed to the possibility, as many others are.

Over the years, I would pick up a book here or there on the subject and avidly read it from cover to cover. In addition, I've always been interested in the natural sciences, evolution, writing and art. I studied art formally, worked as a fiber artist for many years, and also did some illustration. I studied writing as well, and worked as a writer and editor for a number of years. Eventually, many of those subjects kind of merged together for me. After I had several pieces of short fiction published, I considered writing a novel about bigfoot - not a sensationalized one, but a fact-based work of fiction. With that in mind, I embarked on many years of research into the subject. And the more I learned, the more fascinated I became on a personal level.

How I Got Involved

I realized I had a skill to offer the research field that might help investigators gain more knowledge about the animal - my artistic ability. That's when I really became involved.

In the past five years, I've worked with many credible eye witnesses. I have investigated field locations in both Canada and the United States, camping in and visiting locations with a history of repeat sightings.

From all I have learned, both before I met with witnesses and most especially after, I have come to the firm conclusion that there is an undocumented species of bipedal primate living in the forests, mountains and watersheds of North America. And I suspect that these "sasquatch" or "bigfoot" have lived on this continent for at least as long as humans have lived here.

For that to be true, there would have to be a viable breeding population, not just one vagrant bigfoot that everyone is seeing, as the popular media likes to suggest. The reality is that they are flesh and blood mammals that possess enough intelligence and cunning to be very good at eluding human beings in their natural habitat. In fact, anecdotal evidence has indicated the possibility that these creatures may have developed some physiological adaptations that help them elude us, like night vision, and the ability to generate infra-sound. Those are attributes that belong to many other animals, including the great cats and elephants.

In recent years, I have spent considerable time and energy educating myself about this creature. I have studied the Patterson/Gimlin film footage, shot on October 20, 1967 by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin. They filmed a female sasquatch walking across a dry river bed in Bluff Creek, Northern California.

I've conducted intensive interviews lasting many months and years with witnesses who have had a visual encounter that stunned, shocked and frightened them.

I've visited locations of ongoing sasquatch activity with experienced field investigators and have heard some very strange vocalizations that could not be identified by seasoned outdoorsmen.

I've also read about the discovery of fossilized teeth and mandibles (lower jawbones) of a giant, possibly bipedal ape, Gigantopithicus Blacki, which lived as recently as 300,000 years ago in China. There are documented fossil remains of this animal, thousands of teeth, and to date, several mandibles. The possibility exists that this huge primate didn't die off, but crossed the Bering land bridge and spread out across North America in the same way that humans did. It could be the ancestor of this animal we call bigfoot/sasquatch.
